Effluent discharge Flow measurements can be very accurate
Flow can be accurately measured using depth measurements upstream of a calibrated weir or flow channel width restriction
|
|
A "V" notch weir is a classic flow measurement system for relatively clean water applications. Water depth can be sensed using either a submersible pressure transducer or a non-contacting ultrasonic level sensor connected to a Radcom data logger.

Where there is significant water contamination, especially containing solids, restrictions at the bottom of the flow channel should be avoided, and MCert approved open channel flow detection systems are recommended. For such applications a non-contacting ultrasonic depth sensor is recommended for reliability of measurement.

Effluent flow measurement can be achieved at very low cost, where a syphon chamber already exist in water treatment works. The chamber empties and fills at a rate relating to water flow. The Radcom SyFlo logger monitors the rate of water rise within the chamber before the syphon automatically empties the chamber. A very simple two switch sensor is connected to a Radcom SyFlo data logger, which calculate the average flow rate, and stores the result for future download and analysis on a Laptop/PC using RadWin software.
